Hetzner's Data Center Park in southern Tuusula will expand again with a new data center at the end of 2020. In addition, the groundwork for the following data center units is already underway.

Serving over 150 countries

After the new data center becomes operational, there will be four distinct areas to house the company’s servers, creating ample capacity to serve Hetzner Online customers in more than 150 countries. The new server areas will include both dedicated servers and Hetzner cloud servers. With the expansion, capacity will increase, both in the number of servers and in energy consumption.

Servers will exceed 6 megawatts

"When the new data center goes live and the planned expansions are complete, Hetzner's servers will exceed an impressive 6 megawatts. At the same time, the server capacity will go beyond the 100,000-server milestone," commented Mission-Critical Facilities Manager Ari Kokkonen from Hetzner Finland Oy.

Data Center Park Helsinki

Data Center Park Helsinki will continue growing in the coming years. At present, the company already employs more than 30 people in Finland, and they are in the process of recruiting new staff for various job descriptions as new data centers go live.

“The future looks bright for data centers. Digitalization in various fields, such as the growth of data and network traffic, is likely to create demand for data center services. New technologies such as 5G, IoT, artificial intelligence, and virtual and augmented reality are driving the growth in the amount of data in data centers”, says Joonas Terhivuo, CEO of Hetzner Finland Oy.

New data centers already under construction

At the same time that the new data center nears completion, Hetzner Finland will build two completely new data center units on its site. The groundwork for these units has started, and the first of these is planned to become operational in the coming years. Data Center Park Helsinki’s campus has enough space for up to 10 data center units and 20 data centers in the future. Plans for the site’s yard area also include additional buildings, such as a warehouse and a building for the construction crews to use for their breaks and office space. These are expected to be completed within the next year.
