Power Management Reimagined

Vertiv Dynamic Power reimagines power management for companies who want always-on power but struggle to meet increased power demand and the constraints and complexity of available power. In this session, we will present our perspective on the future of data centers by focusing on two key factors able to transform data center power infrastructure: dynamic grid support and hydrogen fuel cells.

Hybridising the Edge

This talk will explore how data centers are in the spotlight due to the industry's increasing use of the planet's finite amount of energy available. This means that there is increasing legislation on data center build and limited power availability in strategic locations. We as an industry need to think about ways of doing more with less, meaning provide more compute with less power. Technologies like liquid cooling are new and efficient, but using those technologies to cool low-density racks is like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut. We need to use a level of creativity like using technologies in hybrid form. Mixing liquid cooling with air cooling, and also taking advantage of some flexible architectures available today to make the most of the current and future edge facilities.

Don't Recycle Your Old IT Assets – Remarket It!

As the world faces the growing threat of climate change, businesses across all sectors are under increasing pressure to reduce their environmental impact. IT is no exception. In fact, IT, particularly data centers, contributes to the direct and indirect generation of CO2 and the production of 53 million tons of electronic waste (e-waste) every year. Most companies are well aware, and have created sound programmes for recycling old equipment. But why not remarket them instead? In this session, Lorant Stenberg will discuss how IT can contribute to their company’s sustainability goals, and why you should remarket your old IT assets rather than just recycle.

Episode 1

Live talk show with the people who are changing the face of the data center industry, hosted & moderated by Liselotte Lyngsø, Founder of Future Navigator.

The Nordics are set to become the premiere region for digital infrastructure services in the world. What is driving the unprecedented growth of the Nordic data center market?

Driver for Growth: AI

The explosion in AI demand has significant implications for the data center industry. As AI technologies mature and are integrated across sectors, the need for computational power, storage, and specialized infrastructure grows exponentially. What does this mean for the Nordic data center industry and, above all, what opportunities does it offer?

Driver for Growth: Hybrid IT

Over the next two years, a vast majority of infrastructure strategies will integrate a combination of on-premises, colocation, cloud, and edge delivery options. What are the drivers behind this trend, and what are the security, privacy, and compliance implications? And where exactly do you put your data? The Nordics just might be in a perfect position here: data centers are powered by plenty of cheap and green energy.

Sustainability as a Strategy

A major factor in the Nordics' unique position in the international data center landscape can be summarized in one word: sustainability. It combines a cool climate with lots of sustainable power and available water. Not only that, the Nordics can also add innovative heat reuse technology to this mix. We take a look at how the Nordics are leveraging its natural conditions to become a hub for data center development.

The Cloud is Not in the Sky

Data centers are now as crucial to all infrastructure as roads, railways, and airports. And with the ongoing green and digital transformation, the need for data centers will continue to increase. Yet, the sustainability of IT infrastructure itself is just as important as the benefits that technology can have on our day-to-day lives. This presentation will connect the technologies we are all using and relying on – both in our daily lives and at work – with the physical IT and energy infrastructure that underpins those technologies. The session will also offer perspective and insight into how data center and digital infrastructure professionals can introduce and explain the sector to the public and attract talent, as it is a growing industry with many opportunities that requires diverse expertise, all while offering a rewarding purpose: building a sustainable digital backbone for the world.

Operating Sustainable Data Centers for a Sustainable Tomorrow

Data centers around the world are evolving in many areas. To take further steps in optimizing operations and saving costs, digital systems and services are needed that analyze the operational environment around the clock, suggest adjustments, and detect possible problems before they happen. Schneider Electric has a broad portfolio of systems that enable the transition from a reactive operations organization to a more data-driven, proactive data center operater and manager. In this presentation, Schneider Electric will demonstrate systems and services that enable increased cybersecurity and efficiency to realize more sustainable data centers.

Xcelerate Your Digitalization Journey

The data center industry is experiencing a major change with AI pushing for higher power density per rack on one hand, and new EU regulations asking for more sustainability transparency on the other one. The two market drivers will affect the way data center owners will design their future facilities (or retrofit the existing ones) and operate them to fulfill the new legal requirements. Every data will count, and software integrations will be more than ever pivotal to succeed in managing end-to-end operations.

In this presentation, Siemens will illustrate the positive role of its new marketplace, Siemens Xcelerator, launched in Sweden last year. The speaker will lead the audience through some success cases, highlighting the benefits perceived by the customer and the contribute of the third-party portfolio.

Episode 2

Live talk show with the people who are changing the face of the data center industry, hosted & moderated by Liselotte Lyngsø, Founder of Future Navigator.

With an abundance of renewable energy, political stability, excellent infrastructure, a skilled workforce, and a naturally cool climate, the Nordics are in a great position to become the sustainable digital backbone of Europe.

What Sets the Nordics Apart?

What are the specific challenges that regions outside the Nordics (especially FLAP-D) face? How do EU and local regulations impact data center operations outside of the Nordics, not to mention restrictions on water, land, and energy use?

Land, Connectivity, and Energy

The Nordics have great connectivity with the rest of the world and room for growth to spare, coupled with ample space and plenty of renewable energy. How can the Nordics keep capitalizing on this competitive advantage for the coming years? We take a look at new data center developments.

Data Centers in Society

Like all ecosystems, the Nordic data center industry is undeniably linked to what happens in the society it is part of. Top-notch education systems, fertile ground for skilled talent, and promising startups are driving important innovation in the region. But how can societal concerns about data centers, like those seen in other regions, be averted and assuaged?

Guests include:

Stefan Nilsson – Sales & Marketing Manager, Conapto

Jonathan Evans – Director, Total Data Centre Solutions

John Wernvik – Chief Marketing Officer, EcoDataCenter

Jovita Januskeviciute – EMEA Research Manager, DC Byte

Andreas Espeving – Senior Key Account Manager, Vattenfall

Luleå Warmer Because of Summers

The Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE) ICE data center unit in Luleå has a fully functioning, demonstrator proof-of-concept of locally produced biogas fuel cells powering an immersed liquid-cooled micro data center with combined heat recovery into a local district heating network. The solution is quiet and has the potential to operate dense compute for AI workloads close to the users where the generated heat is recovered. At Datacenter Forum Copenhagen 2021, Jon presented the concept of the demonstrator. Now, after operating with continued developments and improvements from March 2022, results from the fully operational system highlight some interesting observations and lessons learned.

Uptime Institute's Global Data Center Survey 2023 Results

The data center industry's largest and most comprehensive survey results are in! Uptime Institute's 13th-annual global survey reveals an industry that is growing, dynamic, and increasingly resilient, yet facing a widening range of challenges. Spending on data centers and related services is strong, despite persistent staffing shortages and supply chain delays. New technologies present a promising way forward, but are expensive and lack standardization and scalability. Furthermore, creating a more environmentally sustainable footprint along with reducing energy use is a major and growing focus as operators brace for heightened scrutiny, regulations, and reporting requirements coming into fruition. Hear about these findings and more!
