Amazon has announced four Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) – long-term agreements to purchase electricity directly from carbon-free energy producers – in Sweden as part of the company's goal to reach net-zero emissions across its entire operations by 2040. The investments adds nearly 200 MW of new carbon-free energy capacity to the country. When all projects are fully operational, Amazon will have invested in nearly 1 GW of wind power capacity in Sweden, enough to power the equivalent of more than 350,000 households annually.
With these four new wind farms, Amazon has now invested in nine large-scale wind power projects in Sweden, with an estimated total capacity of almost 1 GW (985 MW). Two leading Nordic renewable energy companies, OX2 and Eolus, are developing the projects in central and southern Sweden.
Amazon’s new agreement includes:
- Fageråsen – developed by OX2, Eolus and Dala Vind, 132 MW, located in Malung-Sälen, Dalarna
- Boarp (Saena portfolio) – developed by Eolus, owned by Mirova, 17.5 MW, located in Vaggeryd, Jönköping
- Dållebo (Saena portfolio) – developed by Eolus, owned by Mirova, 18 MW, located in Ulricehamn, Västra Götaland
- Fågelås (Saena portfolio) – developed by Eolus, owned by Mirova, 31.5 MW, located in Hjo, Västra Götaland
All three Saena projects are already in operation and delivering carbon-free energy to the Swedish electricity grid. Construction of the Fageråsen wind farm began earlier this year and is currently underway.
