Regant Oy is planning a data center in Mikkeli. The city of Mikkeli is leasing five hectares of the Visulahti industrial area to the company.
Regant Oy isn't the only data center company in Mikkeli: two other data center companies are also locating in the Visulahti industrial area, though details are scarce.
Mikkeli's Land Use Director Topiantti Äikäs is pleased that Regant Oy chose Mikkeli. 'It strongly appears that a significant digital infrastructure cluster is forming in Visulahti', Äikäs states. The City of Mikkeli made an official decision on the land lease on June 27, 2025. The lease agreement will be signed after the appeal period.
A plan has been prepared in the Visulahti industrial area to enable the construction of a data center. The area has a strong electricity network and is adjacent to Fingrid's main grid, which offers ample connection capacity.
'It was a pleasure to find a competitive area for the needs of the data center. The cooperation with the City of Mikkeli and the development company Miksei has worked excellently', says Matti-Juho Ervasti, CEO of Regant Oy. The new company says it specializes in 'project development, innovation spanning a diverse range of property classes and renewable energy systems including energy storage and solar power development. We have worked on numerous successful projects.'
Ervasti confirms that the final scope and content of the new data center will be finalized as the design progresses. The plot with building rights for rent has over 24,000 square meters, which enables the construction of a significant data center.
Regant Oy is also planning to build a data center in Naarajärvi, Pieksämä. It plans to purchase an area of almost 19 hectares there, for a planned data center size of 40,000–90,000 square meters.
