Data centers are big energy users. In Boden, Sweden, there's an ongoing test to see whether data center waste heat can be used to dry wood chips from deforestation.
Pilot data center Boden
The test is done at the ICE pilot data center in Boden where a dryer in a container is connected to the outlet of the datacenter. The biomass is transported on a belt and the warm air is passing through and drying the biomass. The goal is to see how efficient it can be and if it could be a solution for heat re-use.
