T.Loop has acquired an 800 m2 data center in central Stockholm. The facility will this year be modernized and transformed into a Data Energy Center.

"Acquisition of an existing data center is an important part of T.Loop's establishment strategy," says Mathias Lindqvist, Chief Engineer and one of T.Loop's founders. "We see great potential in this facility where we will be able to reuse the existing infrastructure and thus quickly offer the center's colocation services to our customers. At the same time, we also see good conditions for being able to recycle all the heat generated in the data center to heat the property in which it is located."

Data Energy Center

Through this acquisition, T.Loop greatly expands its data capacity, in line with the company's growth plan. The company opened its first Data Energy Center in northern Stockholm on December 7 last year. T.Loop has a unique concept that uses liquid-based cooling of the servers and uses the residual heat to heat the building in which the data hall is located, but can also be returned directly to the district heating network. T.Loop presented its concept at Datacenter Changemakers Stockholm in 2022.

T.Loop's Data Energy Center quickly becomes climate positive by being built in existing buildings and replacing existing heating of the property with its residual heat from the servers. When acquiring older data centers, the company makes sure to reuse as high a proportion of existing infrastructure as possible to reduce the data center's climate impact without sacrificing the quality of its colocation services.

Ensure the smallest possible climate

"In a circular business model, it is important to maximize the use of resources at all levels. By establishing our Data Energy Centers in existing buildings and recovering residual heat, we have taken great strides in minimizing our climate impact. But our ambition is higher than that, which means that we continuously develop our concept to ensure the smallest possible climate impact based on scope 1-3. For many of our customers, IT represents an increasing climate burden and we want to do our utmost to ensure that our customers can continue their digitization and at the same time reduce their CO2 emissions," says Cecilia Hjertzell, Sustainability Manager at T.Loop.
