Bulk Infrastructure added three new data halls at its Oslo Internet Exchange (OS-IX) data center, which has doubled the current capacity. It makes OS-IX the largest data center in the Oslo metropolitan area.

“We see a clear trend where businesses and public organizations want a secure, scalable, and highly connected data center solution that is centrally located,” said Rob Elder, Chief Commercial Officer at Bulk. “The combination of cost control, increased data processing and a growing need for sovereignty means that more customers are moving to a hybrid cloud strategy while ensuring their critical data stays close to home.”

A leading Nordic IT provider uses OS-IX to support the company's hybrid strategy, combining data center platforms and public cloud services. The company handles the IT needs of more than 600 companies across 2,500 locations in Norway and around the world, including some of Norway's most demanding and security-conscious organizations.

“We need to be thorough when choosing partners because we make the decision on behalf of hundreds of customers. With the growing demand for colocation to secure and process their data, we prioritize partners that meet our high standards for security connectivity, compliance, and certifications,” said Erfan Mohammadi, Head of Cloud Infrastructure at Intility.

Double capacity

The OS-IX expansion includes three new data halls, which has doubled the current capacity. OS-IX, aquired early 2022, is now the largest data center in the Oslo metropolitan area. OS-IX currently houses infrastructure across sectors from public companies to large enterprises and international cloud providers. New regulatory requirements for the public sector are accelerating this shift, with Norwegian and international institutions and businesses needing greater oversight and control over their data.

Bulk will continue to invest in critical infrastructure supporting Norway combining data center and fiber infrastructure and planning further expansion at the site in the coming years. OS-IX still has access to additional power and space to cater for future growth.
