Verne has started the construction of the first 70 MW on its data center campus in Mäntsälä, Finland, with a foundation stone ceremony attended by local and national stakeholders.
The new campus, which was announced end of 2024, will have an initial capacity of 70 MW and is being developed to support growing demand for AI, high-performance computing, machine learning and other high-density workloads. Located in Mäntsälä’s Kapuli area, the approximately 10-hectare site will run on renewable energy and is planned to reuse waste heat in local community heating projects.
“This is an important step for Verne in Finland,” said Kim Gunnelius, Managing Director, Finland at Verne. “Mäntsälä brings together the energy infrastructure, local partnerships and operating conditions needed for high-density computing at scale. As demand continues to grow, we want to build infrastructure that not only supports our customers, but also contributes positively to the local community and regional economy.”
Landmark project
“This is a landmark project for Mäntsälä and an important step in strengthening the foundations for future industrial growth,” said Marko Ahl, CEO of Nivos, which will be supplying power to the site. “Reliable, forward-looking energy infrastructure is essential to attracting major new investment, and we are proud to support a development that can contribute to the municipality’s long-term economic development and competitiveness.”
“We are very pleased to see Verne take this important next step in Mäntsälä,” said Hannu Laurila, Mayor of Mäntsälä. “This investment creates significant opportunities for our municipality and the wider region, not only through the site itself, but through the wider network of suppliers, service providers, energy partners and other businesses that can grow around it. Mäntsälä has the location, infrastructure and reliable power grid needed for long-term, future-focused investment.”
