Finnish data center operator Hyperco has gotten permission from the permit department of the Kouvola Technical Board to build a second data center in Hiivuri, Koria. It will be built adjacent to Hyperco's first data center there.
Hyperco's data center will be located on an 11.1-hectare plot to the west of Hyperco's first data center under construction in Koria, which lies west of Kouvola, southern Finland. Construction work on Hyperco's first data center in Koria began last year, with work on the single-story building scheduled to be completed in May 2027.
The new data center building will be a two-story building and, according to the building permit application, will have a total floor area of 56,670 square meters. The data center will have an IT capacity of approximately 100 megawatts and a total electrical capacity of approximately 130 megawatts. The building permit also allows for the construction of a gatehouse, a fire water tank and pump house, a substation building, a maintenance and equipment hall, and a civil defense shelter.
The permit department approved the start of work before the building permit became legally binding. Hyperco says it made the request because in summer, earthworks and foundation works can be carried out more safely, cost-effectively and without additional measures related to winter construction.
Hyperco must still apply for a separate environmental permit for the data center's operations.
