Microsoft has announced plans to develop a new data center in Sandnes, in the Stavanger region.
Microsoft has purchased a 64-acre plot of land in Sandnes. According to the registration, Microsoft Datacenter Norway is paying NOK 153.6 million (about €13.6 million) for the property. The data center will have a capacity of 25 megawatts, Microsoft told E24.
The new facility, located in an area zoned for industrial and data center purposes, will expand the capacity of Microsoft's Norwegian cloud presence when operational. It will complement the company's existing cloud region Norway East, which opened in 2019 and currently serves organizations across the public and private sectors.
"The Stavanger region has driven Norwegian value creation for decades, and we are proud to contribute to the region's next era by building modern digital infrastructure that supports Norwegian jobs and accelerates innovation across business and the public sector", said Kristine Dahl Steidel, CEO of Microsoft Norway.
