The government of Hämeenlinna announced that a reservation agreement has been made for three business plots in Hämeenlinna's MORE industrial park, for a data center project of up to 120 megawatts.
The reservation applies to three plots at the park, with a reservation period of 6 months, during which a Finnish subsidiary is established and the selection of the operator proceeds.
The project emphasises energy efficiency, heat recovery and the principles of a circular economy. If implemented, in addition to the employment impact of the construction phase, the municipality thinks the operation will create significant local continuous employment and increase the need for regional expertise in HVAC, mechanical, automation and electrical engineering. With Häme University of Applied Sciences, Hämeenlinna also sees the potential to develop different system skills alongside the project.
“The project strengthens Hämeenlinna’s position as a hub for sustainable industry and digital infrastructure. In cooperation with the owners and the future operator, we can bring investment, jobs and know-how to the area – responsibly and strengthening local vitality”, said Ari Räsänen, Director, Location Services at Linnan Kehitys Oy.
The project is promoted by a Nordic group of owners with strong experience in real estate development, energy and industrial infrastructure:
– Tor Arne Pedersen: 20+ years in the energy sector; key roles in water, wind and hydrogen projects in Norway, Sweden and Nepal, Chairman of the Board of Varanger Kraft, experience in the introduction of optical fibre infrastructure and public private partnerships.
– Jacob B Stolt-Nielsen: extensive leadership experience in Stolt-Nielsen Group, 17 international chemical terminal projects, founder of Norterminal AS and Narvik Batter, focusing on sustainable industrial infrastructure and energy storage.
– Rune Ulvang: a practical expert in real estate development and construction, experience as a contractor and project manager in demanding projects and international investments.
“Our goal is to ensure that a modern data center is built in Hämeenlinna, which utilises clean energy and advanced heat recovery solutions. We are currently looking for an internationally experienced operator that will share these goals”, said Tor Arne Pedersen, Member of the Board, Baltic General Power Company SIA (BGPC).
The Latvian Baltic General Power Company SIA (BGPC) operates as an early-stage company due to its expertise in real estate development, hydrogen projects and European energy connections, among other things. An operator will be sought for the Hämeenlinna site, which will be responsible for the datacenter functions.
