French energy company Valorem is planning a data center in the Kissankallio area of Eurajoki, West Finland.
Finnish newspapers YLE and Satakunnan Kansa report that in the first phase, a 60-megawatt data center would be built, connected to an 80-megawatt solar power plant and a 30-megawatt battery energy storage system (BESS). The intention is that the center could be expanded to several hundred megawatts if necessary. The company is seeking a building permit for next year.
Valorem is a French renewable energy company. In addition to France and Finland, the company also operates in Greece, Italy, Sweden, Romania and Poland. Valorem and Eurajoki are currently negotiating a planning reservation agreement of approximately 55 hectares of land for the area owned by the municipality. The collaborative planning will begin immediately. According to municipal leader Vesa Lakaniemi, this is a significant opening for the municipality. “The project supports the strategic goal of strengthening Eurajoki as an internationally attractive location for modern technology,” he states in the company's press release.
“Designing data centers in a way that takes energy production into account from the very beginning is increasingly mainstream around the world,” says project developer Marko Lehenberg. “This supports data center operators’ goal of primarily using clean energy.”
