Latvian telco Tet has completed the first phase of construction of the new data center DC7 in Salaspils, and the building has been put into operation. The company is preparing for the international Tier III Facility certification, while the Tier III Design certificate has already been awarded to the data center. After the certification is completed, Tet will operate two highest security Tier III data centers in Latvia – Dattum and DC7.
“The opening of the new data center is planned for November this year,” says Uldis Tatarčuks, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Tet. “We see that the demand for secure and high-performance digital infrastructure is growing faster than ever before. The new data center will not only allow us to expand our service capabilities, but will also provide companies and organizations with the opportunity to develop modern digital solutions right here in Latvia. This is an investment in both technological development and the country’s future competitiveness.”
The project is being implemented in two phases – the first phase is planned to be fully completed by July 2026, while the second phase is scheduled for construction by 2028. The area of the first phase of DC7 is 839 square meters, while the total area covers 10,000 square meters. 343 specialists were involved in the project implementation over a period of 12 months, 67 kilometers of copper cables and 13.5 kilometers of optical lines were built.
“DC7 is an example of how the construction of a modern data center becomes a very complex technology integration project. Within 16 months from design to completion of construction, construction, power supply, heat recovery, liquid cooling, security and data center IT infrastructure had to be combined in one process, while simultaneously implementing compliance with the highest international data center standards. Such experience confirms not only our team's competence in critical infrastructure projects, but also its ability to implement highly complex technological objects at the European level,” says Dāvis Eniks, CEO of the construction and engineering solutions company “Citrus Solutions”.
Latvia's most advanced data center
DC7 will be the most technologically advanced data center in Latvia. It will be connected to the largest optical Internet network nodes in Latvia, as well as international Internet exchange points in Europe, providing the opportunity for government and business customers to store data in Latvia and create a backup infrastructure in Europe. DC7 will be available to customers with continuous 24/7 operation. The project infrastructure provides for three levels of physical security and the N+1 redundancy principle.
The data center is equipped with energy-efficient technologies, including a liquid cooling solution that significantly reduces energy consumption. DC7's PUE is 1.2. In cooperation with the company Salaspils Siltums, the generated waste heat will be used for the heating supply of Salaspils.
Tet's total investment in the construction of the project exceeds 30 million euros, while the first-round investment is measured at over 10 million euros.
