Helsinki-based AI cloud company DataCrunch Oy wants to build a data center in Akaas.
According to newspaper Aamulehti, Akaa's city council approved the sale of approximately ten hectares of land for 600,000 euros. The city would receive €208,000 in building permit fees and an annual property tax of around €550,000. The land is located in the Akaa Point business area, next to Ysitie and the Helsinki-Tampere motorway. It is estimated the data center will create approximately 100 new jobs to the area.
According to the City of Akaa, a large solar energy field – approximately 28 hectares – and associated energy storage areas are also planned for the Akaa Point area. The fields will be located on disused landfill sites that cannot otherwise be built on.
Ruben Bryon, CEO of DataCrunch, said: "Building a data center in Finland and Akaa is an important strategic step for the company. It supports the company’s and the European Union’s goals of self-sufficiency in artificial intelligence and sustainable energy use. DataCrunch would like to thank the city of Akaa for the good cooperation from the very beginning of the project."
At our event in Helsinki last april, Ruben Bryon spoke about his company and AI.
