Aker Nscale has plans to build a large-scale AI data center in Korgen in Northern Norway.
Regional newspaper Rana Blad reports that Aker Horizons investment director Nils Lysø told the newspaper that the plan is to build a 250MW data center in Korgen, on land formerly owned by power company Nordkraft. The facility is still waiting for a power allocation from Norwegian power system operator Statnett. Lysø estimates that the planned data center will use a grid capacity of 250 MW, slightly more than the average annual production at the Nedre Røssåga power station, where the data center may be located.
Aker Nscale is a joint ventureby investment firm Aker and 'AI hyperscaler' Nscale, a former cryptomining company. In July this year they announced a partnership with OpenAI for the European Stargate project, which plans to deliver a 230MW facility with a potential 290MW expansion in Kvandal, also in northern Norway.
