Construction and project development company Skanska and Nordic data center company atNorth have signed an agreement to build an extension to atNorth's FIN02 data center in Espoo. The contract is worth approximately EUR 100 million to Skanska. Construction began in April, and the data center extension is expected to be completed in autumn 2027.
The new building will be directly connected to the currently operating atNorth FIN02 data center. The five-story extension will cover approximately 11,200 square meters, and once completed, the FIN02 data center will have a total gross capacity of 45 megawatts. In addition to three floors of data center space, the building will also include office space.
“This project is an important step for atNorth in Finland and a natural continuation of the development of the FIN02 campus. It is great to be able to support the domestic construction industry and bring significant financial investment to the Espoo area. Skanska has been a very solution-oriented partner, and their strong expertise in data center construction has convinced us,” says Director of Delivery Toni Germano from atNorth.
In addition to the newly signed agreement, Skanska has previously agreed with atNorth on a frame contract for the extension building, in connection with which soil stabilization has already been carried out.
"This is a very interesting and challenging project, in which we are implementing a data center for our client as a turnkey contract. Before the actual construction work, we guided the comprehensive implementation planning of the project in collaboration with the client. During the project planning phase, we were also able to utilize our strong international data center expertise," says Ville Salonen, Director of the profit center unit at Skanska.
Skanska has implemented over 240 data center projects internationally, and on an annual basis, the figure corresponds to a total capacity of approximately 500 megawatts of completed data centers. "We also currently have several industrial and data center projects underway in Finland. We utilize a comprehensive network of experts and carefully pre-selected partners in our projects, which makes implementation smoother," says Mikko Lehto, Regional Director of Building Services at Skanska .
