Aker Nscale and Løvenskiold-Fossum Kraft Drift have entered into an agreement that makes it possible to build a new data center in Skien.
The data center will have advanced infrastructure for AI, writes Norwegian newspaper Varden. The project has applied for 96 MW of grid capacity from TSO Statnett. This is equivalent to the amount of grid capacity used by the entire city of Skien.
Løvenskiold-Fossum oversees approximately 330,000 acres of forestland and operates multiple small-scale power plants through its Kraft business unit. Leopold Løvenskiold, general manager and owner of Løvenskiold-Fossum, thinks that a data center could contribute to new jobs in Skien. "We believe the data center will attract new, attractive labor and be an important contributor to immigration and value creation in the region. This is a new milestone in the industrial development of Løvenskiold-Fossum."
Specific details regarding the data center, including its precise location, have not yet been disclosed.
